Baby Steps to a Healthier You, No Matter What Age

If you think the number 45 is daunting, then think of what you are going to feel like at the age of 67. Well, from my perspective I am more active, I am more fit and I am more awesome than I was when I was 45, and I AM 67!

It has not always been like this, when I was 45 I was feeling sorry for myself, I was in peri-menopause, had gained about 20 lbs., had two teenage daughters and was working very hard at long hours. I had no idea about  how to time manage, exercise, eat properly and take care of myself because I was so busy looking after others and working to help support my family. Sound familiar?

Well, the wake-up call came and I was forced to take a look at what I was doing... which was nothing.
I realized that all I had to do was make a decision to take "baby steps" towards eating well, exercising and changing my priorities to me.  Because if I did not look after myself then there would be no one to look after my kids and no one to look after me if I got sick. I also realized that all I had to do was change things up - instead of grabbing that muffin on the run I packed a healthy cooler of veggies, hard boiled eggs, and fruit to munch on while I was working. Instead of sitting around after my long day of work, I went outside for a walk.  I would take a look at my watch and walk for 15 minutes and then turn around and walk back for another 15 minutes, totaling 30 minutes.  I gradually increased the time so that I was walking for 30 minutes and then turning around and walking another 30 minutes.

By learning how to manage my time and take that valuable time for myself I was able to lose weight, have more energy and generally be happier. Once I had lost the initial 10 lbs., I then decided that I needed more, so I joined a gym and started lifting weights in order to strengthen my body.

To this day at the age of 67, I hit the gym at least 5 days a week, I lift weights and do spin classes and when I look at myself in the mirror I do not see a 67-year-old woman, I see a 45-year-old women that is in great shape, mind, body and spirit.

Face Your Fears
When I launched my business "Sexy Over Sixty" a few years ago I was riding on pure enthusiasm that I had something to offer women 40 plus so that when they reached 60 they would be physically, emotionally and spiritually ready for this new phase of their lives. I have since come to understand that a great majority of women are not interested in looking after themselves honestly. Therefore when they reach this milestone in their lives they are not prepared for all of the changes that they have to face or they believe that they have it all together until the hammer comes crashing down and they find themselves depressed by their age.

Can you imagine feeling that your life is over at 60? Can you imagine being in terrible physical condition at the age of 60? Can you imagine not having any coping skills to deal with your changing family and friend dynamics?

This is all a reality and the sooner women are interested in facing this reality, the easier the transition from 40 to 50 and then 60 and onward will be for them.

Do you have the tools that you need to move forward through the next decade of your life with Joy?  If the answer is "No" or "Maybe", then believe me, it is time that you started taking action to prepare yourself.  I am not trying to scare you into taking action, I am being perfectly frank.. .Not one female or male can escape these changes and having the tools to work through them is a blessing if you are willing to open up your hearts and minds to the New You.

So now, this very minute, get started in embracing the changes... loving yourself inspite of them - and finding out how you can be the best that you are capable of being at any age.

Prepare NOW in your 40's so you can look and feel great in your 60's.
I am going to give you a statistic that is going to blow your mind...

*Did you know that there are more people over 60 years of age in the U.S. than are under 15 years of age?

I know. I can hear you saying to yourself, "I am not even near the age of 60. I am 45, I am 50, I am 55." Well, guess what! I never thought I would be over 60 either! However, on January 17th, 2013 I turned 65. I now get "the Pension", as my Dad used to call it, which I find very funny. In fact, I laugh all the way to the bank! It is my pay back for having aged and being around to enjoy it.

Do I feel 65? NO.

Do I act 65? NO.

Do I buy into being old? NO!

WHY??? BECAUSE I PREPARED FOR IT!

I can assure you that if you do not look after yourself, you will, in fact, feel old when you hit 60 years of age, and there is absolutely no need to have this happen. We are constantly reading about how to live a healthy lifestyle. However, quite honestly, are you living one?   Do you eat clean, healthy foods? Do you get some form of exercise daily? Do you keep up on the latest trends? BE SMART! Eat clean and healthy foods. BE SEXY! Get some form of exercise. BE HIP! Keep up on the latest trend. What is the latest Trend?  Turning 60 and feeling like you are 40! ARE YOU READY to get started?!?

Research Tells Us Resting Our Minds Is Good For Our Health

Research is proving daily that resting your mind is good for your health.  In one study, research teams from two world-famous universities studied seventy-three residents in homes for the elderly.  The subjects were given either no treatment or daily meditation.  After four years one quarter of the non-meditators had passed away. All of the meditators were still alive.

In 1978, Robert Keith Wallace completed a ten year study of meditators, evaluating their biological age by using three indicators; blood pressure, hearing and near point vision.  He found that the subjects who had meditated for five years or less were on average five years younger biologically and that the subjects who had meditated more than five years were on average twelve years younger biologically. For example, sixty-five year olds had fifty-three year old bodies.

If you could subtract twelve years from your biological age by simply doing a twenty minute practice of Meditation daily would you? For me it is easy, I say YES and have been meditating since the age of seventeen and I guess that is why people say I do not look my age. Biologically, I am 65; however, it feels great to be 53 and loving every minute of it!

The Exciting Road Toward Anti-Aging

First of all, before we can understand Anti-aging we have to understand Aging in layman's terms.  That means the kind of aging that we may experience after the age of 50.  The new aches and pains, the feeling of being bloated, the mild feelings of depression, the lack of enthusiasm, weight gain, and generally feeling, "Who Am I" and "What Have I Become?"....That is Aging.

Not feeling the aches and pains, not feeling bloated, not feeling depressed, not feeling unenthusiastic, not gaining weight and knowing Who You Are and What You Have Become ... That is Anti-Aging.

You ask ... how do I achieve that?  The answer is start taking care of yourself before Aging starts, or in the alternative, if you are experiencing some of these symptoms then begin right now to change things.
  • Find an exercise program that works for you.
  • Find out what foods make you feel bloated (you may be experiencing some food allergies).
  • Learn how to meditate.
  • Learn to eat clean without depriving yourself.

Take a real hard look at yourself in the Mirror and decide what you want to look like and what you want your life to look like.  Find a supportive environment to make these changes.  That may be a Life Coach...

If you are ready to crack the code ... If you are ready to get in the zone ... If you are ready to achieve sustainable change ... If you are not looking for a quick fix ... and If you are willing to do whatever it takes to get there, then you are on the road toward Anti-Aging and being and feeling ageless, which is a life long journey.  In my sixth decade of life, I am still on this fun and exciting journey and loving every minute of it.
