When I first started to exercise and clean up my diet I found that I was hungry all of the time because I had turned my body into a "fat burning machine". At least, I thought that I had. "Why was it not working?", I asked myself. Well, this is why; I had increased my portions, so all of that hard work at the gym was not paying off. My "fat burning machine" was working, however, I was putting in more calories than I was expending. This is when I felt like "throwing in the towel", instead I decided to find out what a real serving actually was, and to my surprise it was not what I was eating. I had been eating literally twice as much as I should have. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not talking about starving, I am talking about eating portions that are reasonable and not more than your body can process to fuel that "fat burning machine".
Portions
- The size of both hands put together equals a little more than a cup of greens.
- The size and thickness of the centre of your palm equals four ounces of fish, poultry and lean meats.
- The size of your two thumbs equals two tablespoons of salad dressing, oil, nut butter, nuts or seeds. In the case of hard cheese it equals one ounce.
- The size of your fist equals one cup of milk, low-fat cottage cheese, Greek style yogurt, chopped fresh fruit and veggies.
Give this method a try. I did and found that the pounds starting dropping off as did the inches! Good luck, I would love to hear about your progress.
